Chlorthalidone can lower sodium and potassium levels and may cause other electrolyte changes. Periodic blood tests may be recommended to monitor electrolytes and kidney function.

Chlorthalidone increases urine production. Excessive fluid loss can cause dehydration, dizziness or low blood pressure, particularly during hot weather or illness causing vomiting or diarrhea.

Telmisartan should not be used during pregnancy because medicines that act on the renin–angiotensin system can cause serious fetal harm. Consult a doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs during treatment.
